Tonight's the night!

8th May, 2008

The Classical BRITs will be awarded tonight, and already Royal Albert hall is buzzing with anticipation. Since the early hours of the morning crews have been filing in to the auspicious theatre readying the space for tonight’s spectacular show.

At noon, the it seemed an entire army — lighting designers, sound engineers, musicians, press, set designers and stagehands — filled the steps and balustrades around the hall. The black clad crew was having a breather, taking in the sun and some much-needed lunch. They need their energy to power through a day’s worth of rehearsals and a show that will carry on well into the evening.

In the confines of the theatre, while the corps of workers took their lunch, presenter Myleen Klass ran through her lines with the help of a massive teleprompter, fixing grammatical errors in the script and getting her lines and the timings just right.

Tonight’s show will be aired on television next week, so there’s no room for slip-ups, and everyone from the caterers to the spotlight man is honing their craft, aiming for perfection.
