Musicians take the stage

8th May, 2008

They ambled in wearing cut-off shorts flip flops and flimsy sundresses. Soon the orchestra pit of Royal Albert Hall was filled with them. No, they weren’t shoppers who’d wandered off the highstreet, despite their casual appearance. Within moments they’d found their seats in the orchestra pit, and pulled out bows and reeds from their rucksacks. They began to tune their waiting instruments — their identities were clear: the orchestra is here.

A unique piece of music has been chosen to herald the entrance of each award’s presenter. Thus, with each presenter the finely tuned group of musicians rapidly changed tunes, here Bolero, there the Right of Spring. They abilities tested to the max, they still had the presence of mind to let out a whooping cheer for each performer with whom they were rehearsing with. When the audience files in tonight, they’ll surely get some cheers of their own.
